Photoshop Self-Portrait

Trying to improve my color, face anatomy, general painting, etc. etc. abilities over the break. Heres a self portrait I did to keep myself in check.

The New Quacker

Meh. This project came on way too short notice.

Swamped. Like Yoda-on-Dagoba swamped.

So swamped this week! I still have yet to even start my digital painting as well... just great. 24 hours to paint something - is it possible? I'll found out. Good luck to everyone during finals.

Getting warmer...

I'm not sure what to do with that patch of green bush (sounds dirty).

Unsure where I'm going at this point.

Started adding color... what the heck is a triadic color scheme! Pish-posh.

Photoshop collage project

Here is my rough for the collage project so far. This is with all the layer effects off... I figured it'd be funny to look at just to see how horrible it looks without all that photoshop voodoo dark magic applied. I'll post more in a couple hours.

Baby Shower Invites

Howdy howdy and bowdy bowdy,

I'm going to be an uncle in a couple of months so my sister asked me to design the invitations for her baby shower. This is something completely out of my realm but I guess free resources are free resources, heh. The theme for the shower is a circus/Moulin Rouge affair. This was a strange task because Moulin Rouge has a red/yellow/warm color scheme but my sister wanted this baby blue diamond pattern color scheme instead (she's having a boy). I'll tell you something; sometimes you just need to throw the prompt out the window and roll with the punches when you know its just not going to work. Flex your artistic AU-THOR-I-TY!

Classic Tale Thumbnails

Some thumbnails for the classic tale project. Still deciding which to go with. Your thoughts?

How many times must you repeat yourself?

Hello hello! (HOLA!)

Another eye for your eyes. A sight for sore eyes!

Eye Spie width mai ladle eye

Herrooo...

Another eye for homework; this time its wood.

Some. Eyezzz.

Hello everyone,

Haven't updated in a while. Some alternate-inspired eyes (3 of 8). This is actually kind of fun. Anyways, hope everyone is enjoying Photoshop as much as I am.

Watercolor: Landscape

Well here is another painting from my watercolor class. Was a lot of fun because I got to paint looser than usual.

For anyone interested in cafe sketching

Hey everyone,

On mondays, wednesdays, and even thursdays, I get out of class around the same time (3:45pm). Around this time if I'm feeling up to it I usually head over to the TSU to draw people in a more lively setting. If anyone is interested in joining me in some sketch sessions you can e-mail me at mravelo87@gmail.com or message me here so we can trade contact info.

I already have one of my friends joining me on occasion. We're planning on bringing a camera next time to take photos of several poses so if anyone needs some this would be a great opportunity too. Our plan is to trade sketchbooks, ideas, and suggestions while sketching at least for an hour or so.

Anyways, if anyone is interested, just let me know. See everyone in class.

I'm done!

Hey everyone,

My project 3... as it should be finalized. Hope you enjoy.

Dedicated to the memory of Master Kordulus

Hey everyone,

Here is a watercolor painting I just finished (excited to post it because its finished!) Included are photographs of the painting at different stages of completion. I've always seen artists post step-by-step shots... this would be a first for me, so I did it. Took me several days - I never tally up the hours... another first I should do.  In a few of the pictures you can see the yellow masking I used, I try not to use it though unless its really necessary. I hate the stuff because it smells so bad and edges don't always come out as clean as I want them to.

Anyways, hope you enjoy, I know I did.
Heres hoping its a good grade :)

Pixar here I come!

Hey everyone,

Here is my 3D eyeball for the week. I really think I've got a future job at Dreamworks.

Boys and girls... The chocolate factory...

Hey everyone,

I visited the Fullerton Arboretum yesterday for my watercolor painting class. We had to take photographs for reference because we're going to be painting a large landscape in a couple of weeks. I'm excited but I can't be too concerned since I've got a floral painting that needs to be finished first! Anyway, I took a great deal of shots (it was my only class for the day and I didn't want to waste a trip, plus it was a nice day) and I think I've narrowed them down to my top 5 picks. See one you like? Let me know!

Also one more thing, there was an overcast during all these shots so I feel they all have this coldness to them. I was thinking of editing them to give them a more warm look but I'm not too sure, what do you think? All that green and blue seems so unbalanced.

Burning the midnight oil

Hello everyone,

My completed assignment number 2. My favorite part was the fish and hotdogs.

Animal Drawing

For anyone wanting to take animal drawing but don't know what to expect here are some examples of my work in that class.

Patterned eye

My patterned eye for the week. I wanted to practice some more with the gradient tool... I'll probably redo this, the pattern isn't as noticeable (its in the iris but it doesn't repeat enough).

Watercolor painting complete

And the finished piece. 15"x15" on Arches watercolor paper. I would have done a few things differently... next time I suppose.

Watercolor paintings

Here is my first real watercolor assignment. It's still not done but its getting there. In the pictures the type looks all weird because the paper is all warped from not being stretched yet. Watercolors seemed really hard at first but learning to control it has proven how great this medium is. Don't get me wrong though, I'm still not quite 100% sure with what I'm doing! Whatever!

Eyes: Stroke and Mesh

Hey everyone,

Here are my eyes for the week. Two confusing tools, but they look like they can really do some amazing stuff. I have a feeling I'm going to spend one night getting lost in all the anchor points that mesh tool makes. The 2nd one is suppose to have a candy texture... but to be honest I really didn't know what I was doing. :(

T-Shirt for sale

Hey everyone,

I uploaded my t-shirt design to Zazzle.com. The link is here.
The price is 15.95 for one. If anyone buys one I'll be really amazed. I think I might try coming up with more t-shirt ideas in the future because this site is kind of cool and hey, income is even WAY COOLER!

Anyways, I'll be posting more art soon... once I get my  head around this mountain of homework thats just piling up week by week. Have a good day everybody!

Eyes

Eye  homework for week #4

Needs more cheese.

Hello classmateys!

Heres the almost-finished version of my T-shirt design. Still needs a little fixin's here and there me thinks. Does it read well? And is it FUNNY! funny? Only time will tell (Thursday basically).

Can't wait to see everyone else's designs. Do me a favor though and feel free to boo and hiss at anything if it doesn't seem right!

Cheers everyone.

Stumped. As in tree stumped.

Howdy classmates and blog followers,
Alright, so here are the two big ideas I was toying around with for the T-shirt design project. The concept is "Funny things about being an art student".

Idea 1.) I'm broke as a joke because I spent all my money on supplies
Idea 2.) My car is overflowing with all my stuff AHHH!!!
One of the things I have to fix is the simplicity of these. I decided to just put everything down on the paper first and subtract things as I go... good for ideas, bad for simplicity's sake. I'm liking idea 2 though; I have it in my head how the final should be - car has so much crap in it I can't even drive it - but I don't want to get too attached to one idea without exploring others so its back to the drawing boards.

Anyone want to throw me some helpful incite?

Eyezzz

Here are two simple eyes. The first one is using just shapes and the second one uses a minimal amount of lines and shape. Can you tell what they are?
